After the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Yasa, the Vodafone ATH Foundation swiftly launched its Red Alert program, providing critical disaster recovery resources to affected communities in Fiji. Among the most impacted areas was Yaro Village on Kia Island, which received essential Red Alert Packs to support the immediate rebuilding of homes and community structures.
Aligned with the Foundation’s mission to foster community resilience and sustainable recovery, a follow-up visit was conducted by Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation World of Difference candidate Tevita Tokalauvere and team to assess the impact of the Red Alert Pack distribution. The goal was to gather feedback from residents and understand the effectiveness of the tools and supplies in rebuilding and protecting the community against future natural disasters.
During the visit, Yaro Village resident Kemueli Lautiki shared his gratitude for the Vodafone ATH Foundation’s support, emphasizing how the Red Alert Packs had transformed the recovery efforts:
“After Cyclone Yasa, receiving a Red Alert Pack from the Vodafone ATH Foundation made a huge difference for my family and community. The tools and supplies helped us rebuild our homes quickly and safely, strengthening our structures and making us feel more secure for the future. We’re grateful for this support, which empowered us to build back better and more resilient than before.”
The Red Alert Packs have played a crucial role in the community’s disaster recovery process by providing vital resources that enabled families to construct safer, more durable homes. This effective disaster support has strengthened Yaro Village’s preparedness for future storms, underscoring the importance of rapid, well-targeted relief efforts in achieving long-term resilience. Through the Vodafone ATH Foundation’s Red Alert initiative, Yaro Village can now face future challenges with increased security and confidence.
The Vodafone ATH Foundation’s Red Alert program highlights the Foundation's commitment to empowering Fiji’s communities to recover and thrive after natural disasters. By fostering resilience and ensuring communities have the resources to rebuild better, the Foundation continues to champion sustainable, impactful recovery for disaster-affected areas across Fiji.
