Jonathan Fong is a graphic designer by trade who’s always had an interest in photography. Born and raised in Suva, he’s moved around Fiji, living in Pacific Harbour, Nadi and Lautoka before settling back in Suva.
“Photography is something I always wanted to learn,” says Jonathan.
“So I spent a lot of time on YouTube listening to photography experts. Brandon Woelfel and Peter McKinnon have both been influences.”
The Coral Coast is his favourite location to shoot. Of course, it was Jonathan’s eye-catching sunrise aerial photograph that captured the judges attention and took out the top spot in the VitiClicks Photography Contest.
When pressed on his interest in drone photography, Jonathan explained, “I previously had the Air2 and now use the Air2S.”
“I was always intrigued by drones, but they were always too expensive. So when my wife and I had the opportunity to purchase one, we did.”
This isn’t the first attention Jonathan has received for his creative endeavours. He’s been recognised for Best Editing & Social Media Engagement in a Valuing Voices (NGO) Digital Mobile Filmmaking workshop.
Jonathan is currently trying to organise a 360-degree virtual tour of the island of Rotuma next year called The Rotuma Project, which can be viewed here https://www.therotumaproject.com
He’s also one of the first in Fiji to offer 360-degree photography for real estate virtual tours, which can be viewed on his website here https://360.motiv8fiji.com
Jonathan’s favourite app for mobile phone photography is Kinemaster, due to Its mobile editing capabilities. He shared an example of a video completely shot and edited on his mobile phone here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf3kcF9CR_o
Jonathan’s advice to young and aspiring photographers: “The internet has a wealth of information to learn and continue to grow your skills.”
“Never stop learning.”
