Vodafone Fiji today announced certification attainment to the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2013 for Information Security Management, making it the first and only telecommunications company to achieve this level of certification in Fiji.

"ISO/IEC 27001 is the international standard for Information Security Management, and Vodafone Fiji has been certified after undergoing a rigorous audit process. The company is now fully compliant in development, maintenance, and support areas for the next five years, after which it will have to undergo re-certification, said Ronald Prasad, Vodafone's Chief Commercial Officer.

The ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems Standard enables organizations to align with global best-practice for information security management. It offers organizations a robust and practical framework to assist with the improvement of information security, focusing on the preservation of confidentiality, integrity, and access to information.

“At Vodafone, we take information security and privacy very seriously. This certification is another step toward our commitment to ensure that customer privacy and confidentiality is maintained at the highest level. Nowadays, data is the most valuable currency, with personal information that can reveal much about a person's behaviour being shared and traded among many parties online. Such information is a gold mine for businesses and marketers. In fact, according to Forbes “over the last two years alone 90 percent of the data in the world was generated. There are 2.5 quintillion bytes of data created each day and will only accelerate with the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT)”. It is therefore imperative that we have stringent policies, processes, and procedures that ensure consumer data privacy and no unauthorized access to consumer data.

All our processes and procedures are fully documented and precisely observed at every step of our regular routines, with regular audits to drive continuous improvement. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and afterwards, both global and local cyber-security risks have risen significantly. We need to always keep up to date with the latest developments in security and ensure all our systems and technology have the necessary defence mechanisms to protect our customers, organization, and its assets”, said Vodafone’s Regional Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Kumar.

“The benefits to consumers and businesses are enormous. For our consumers, we ensure that their personal information is always kept private and secure. As we help our business customers with their cloud and digital transformation journeys, information security is non-negotiable and cannot be compromised.

The certification provides security assurance to customers who run their critical business operations using our connectivity solutions, data center, professional and managed services. We have multiple layers of hardware and software-based protection against cyber-attacks and malicious activities. Not only that, but we also have regular awareness and training programs to ensure employees are continuously up-skilled, educated, and compliant with our data security requirements and zero tolerance for any information security breach.

Vodafone's leap into information security management is a significant development, especially in this era of digital technology. This ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification provides Vodafone Fiji with a competitive advantage and a unique position to provide peace of mind to its customers, given its expanding ICT portfolio and success in vertical markets such as eCommerce (Vitikart), mobile money (M-PAiSA) and cloud services.
