VODAFONE FIJI GOES LIVE WITH 5G

Suva, Fiji – September 12, 2025 –Vodafone Fiji is proud to announce that it will officially go LIVE on 5G, effective September 15, 2025. This marks a pivotal moment for its customers and the nation, as it brings this transformative technology to the people of Fiji.

This milestone follows the issuance of the 5G commercial license to all telecommunications operators, with an effective date of September 15, 2025. As part of the license conditions, Vodafone Fiji has successfully rolled out the first phase of the 5G network and ready to go LIVE on mobile broadband devices. Additionally, Vodafone Fiji will implement a phased rollout approach, in line with the 5G commercial license obligations.

It is being rolled out strategically and responsibly, in alignment with the Government’s national development goals and the readiness of our infrastructure. As part of the 5G rollout, parallel efforts are underway to modernise rural and maritime networks to 4G, reducing the digital divide and ensuring no community is left behind”, said The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Honourable Manoa Kamikamica.

As part of its licensing obligation, Vodafone Fiji is committed to a phased rollout of its 5G network.

The planned rollout is scheduled from 2025 to 2028. Phase One of the rollouts, commencing this year (2025), will cover the town and city boundaries of Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau. These locations represent Fiji’s main economic corridors, ports, and medical centres, ensuring that from the outset, our commercial hubs, tourism centres, and emergency services gain access to 5G services and begin to experience its benefits.

Phase Two, beginning in 2026, will extend 5G coverage to other town centres such as Nasinu, Lami, Labasa, and Savusavu. This phase is designed to support balanced growth between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

From 2027 into 2028, Phase Three and Four of the rollout will iteratively expand 5G services to the remaining townships of Nausori, Sigatoka, Navua, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Korovou and Taveuni strengthening nationwide coverage and ensuring that more regional centres are brought into Fiji’s 5G journey.

In addition, Vodafone Fiji will also undertake investments into modernizing its existing 2G/3G only infrastructure to support 4G services which will improve overall network experience nationwide, ensuring a reliable connectivity service for greater digital inclusion for our customers.

5G services will be available on a wide range of mobile broadband devices. Vodafone Fiji is also working closely with key global smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung to ensure the desired 5G software updates are provided in the very near future in order for 5G services to be available for use by customers on 5G capable smartphones by these manufacturers.
